1/01/1970- When I needed a new front door lock M & D Lock and Keys was able to special order and install a custom high security lock to fit in an unusually shaped lock slot, and re-key my existing basem*nt lock to match the new lock (less keys!). I'm very thankful for their ability to take on jobs that are more complex than your run-of-the-mill lock installation and will use them again. Marika Y.
1/01/1970 - Terrible and dishonest. They came and replaced our front door lock last week and not even a week later the their new lock broke. People were actually trapped inside the house because the lock would not release from inside! They came and opened the lock but then blamed us and said we broke the lock and wouldn't fix it unless we paid them at least ANOTHER $140. Total scam! Keri C.
1/01/1970 - Honest locksmith!!! After calling so many locksmith services in Brooklyn to get my office locks replaced, I found M&D locks and keys with such an honest price. It started with excellent communication skills from the start, followed by arrival at a timely manner, and to top it all, it was straight to the point and honest dealing from the begging. I knew this was the locksmith I will use to replace all the locks in my office.
A true angel! A very strong recommendation for those who don't have time to waste.

I called about programming a new key for my car as the old key was lost and the person on the phone was very friendly and helped 100%, wasnt able to go to the store and they came right to me. 1/01/1970 - A while back, the door to our building malfunctioned and one of our neighbors, an elderly woman, couldn't get out. In a panic, she called M&D. They sold her on a very pricey system that was way more than we needed, and before anyone knew anything about it, the unit was installed. Not only was it expensive, but keys are $20 apiece! Between the new lock and the price of making enough keys for everyone in the building (an eight-unit coop), our bill was $1,000.
When I called the company to complain about overselling our neighbor during an emergency, the man insisted that it was a top-notch lock and that our neighbor fully understood what she was agreeing to (which she did but she also just wanted the door to work). Sure, it works fine, but it doesn't sound like going with a less-expensive option was ever discussed.
Not only are keys $20 apiece, but only THEY can make them. My days of being able to go around the corner to my local locksmith and get new keys ground for a few dollars are over. But, I needed some new keys so yesterday I schlepped to M&D's store on Empire, only to find that it was locked because the guy was out on a call. I called the company and a woman said that they offer pick up and dropoff service for new keys -- for $25 each way. Sure, I want to pay $50 on top of the already-ridiculous $20. Expensive AND inconvenient. Oh, and while I was standing in front of the store, another man showed up and, exasperated, said that they had been closed the last time he'd stopped by too. No hours are posted on their doors.
They do fine work, but be careful about upselling and how pricey/easy it is or isn't going to be to get new locks made down the road.

1/01/1970 - I contacted M&D Locks and Keys and Joe the technician came to my apartment pretty quickly (thank you for the swift response!) He was extremely nice and made small talk with me and gave his best advice. He was very knowledgeable with every question I asked.
He took care of two Iocks for me! I was very pleased with his service. He even left for half hour to get a gold lock for my door. He truly went above and beyond for me. Thank you!
